Workshops

At The Inquisitive Circle, we believe in a collective effort to build our Academic Writing Skills. For this, the community engages in monthly feedback activities as a part of our community interaction. We also invite various PhD Scholars to hold workshops and discussions with us to guide us further in that direction.

28th August ’21

  • On 28th August, we had a workshop on “Argumentative Writing” with Sanya D Kishwar. She is currently an Assistant Lecturer at the Jindal Global Law School, O.P. Jindal Global University. The guest speaker began the session by elucidating on the important aspects of argumentative writing like what is an argument, the qualities of an argumentative writer, argumentative essay, elements of an argument, types of argument and sample structure of an argumentative essay. After the guest speaker gave the presentation, the floor was open to the contributing writers and guests to ask questions.
  • To make the discussion more engaging the guest speaker conducted two activities after answering the questions. In one of the activities, the contributing writers and guests were asked to match the columns of the key terms of argumentative writing with their meaning. In the second activity, an argumentative article was presented where the guest speaker asked everyone to identify the tenants of argumentative writing to explain its structure. We received an overwhelming positive feedback for the workshop. It helped our contributing writers and guests to hone their skills in argumentative writing.

4th July ’21

We had our second workshop on Critical Writing with Allen Thomas on 4 July, 2021. Allen is a PhD candidate at the Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy in Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. He is a recipient of the UGC UKIERI Research Fellowship. He began the workshop by giving a presentation on the nuances related to critical writing i.e. being critical, critical reading (sources of information and data triangulation), critical writing (descriptive vs critical writing, argument building, structure of arguments and fallacies) and a model for critical writing. After the presentation, the contributing writers of TIC and guests attending the workshop were invited to ask questions. After the question answer round, the speaker conducted an interactive activity where everyone critically analysed ‘vaccine hesitancy’. It was a very rigorous and a comprehensive session.
